Preparation

  1. Step 01

    Grate the peeled potatoes on the coarse side of a box grater into a large bowl. Peel the onion and grate it on the fine side of the grater.

  2. Step 02

    Add the egg, flour, salt, pepper, and nutmeg to the potato-onion mixture and mix well with your hands until a uniform batter forms.

  3. Pan-fry over medium to high heat.

    Heat the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium to high heat. Using a spoon, add about 2 tablespoons of the batter per potato pancake to the oil and flatten.

  4. Fry until golden brown on both sides.

    Fry the potato pancakes for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels and continue frying the remaining pancakes in batches.

    Serve the potato pancakes hot with applesauce.
